Have you made a promise to yourself be more active? Lots of us join a gym and plan to get fit, but after a few months we lose interest. There is another way! You don’t need to spend a fortune on gym memberships – you can get fit and have fun by doing loads of free outdoor activities across the county.

We’ve put together a series of blogs on the best ways to get fit for free. So if you’re up for getting more active, read on, and why not take a look at the whole series of blogs. In this blog we’re looking at trim trails, the free fitness trails you can try out at country parks across the county.

Trim trails are running and walking routes around country parks that incorporate free fitness equipment, for those who want to improve their fitness while running, jogging or walking through the park. The equipment can range from chin-up bars to balance beams, parallel bars for dip exercises, ladder walks and various other pieces of kit, all made out of solid timber and with instructions for use. Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned fitness fanatic, you can use the equipment to suit your ability level, and if necessary, slowly build up your use as your strength and conditioning improves.

Having access to a trim trail in a country park means you can have a full workout whilst walking or jogging in the great outdoors, and being outside is great for mental wellbeing, so the experience is not just good for your body, but for your mind as well. Trim trails are a really accessible way to start building your strength and fitness – while gyms can be intimidating for novices, anyone can have a go on a trim trail without fear of judgement. Why not go and try one out with a friend?

There are trim trails in parks right across Kent and Medway, including Trosley Country Park, Shorne Woods Country Park, Danson Park, East Wickham and Capstone Farm Country Park.
