Cyclopark
Development of Europe’s largest cycling park passes another milestone.
Development of Europe’s largest cycling park, Cyclopark, near Gravesend, in Kent, has passed another milestone with the award of the contract for its stunning, glass-fronted pavilion.
London-based construction firm Bryen & Langley Ltd beat off competition from five other contractors to secure the work. Construction of the pavilion is expected to take around 10 months.
The state-of-the-art centre was designed by Canterbury-based architects, Clague. It will provide training and changing facilities, a café, community space, and bike and equipment hire — all located within 43 hectares of parkland.
Bryen & Langley has an excellent track record of adopting a professional approach to challenging and innovative projects across the South East. They will be working in close partnership with Kent County Council, architects Clague, the park designer, Jacobs, and other specialist sub contactors to deliver the unique Cyclopark pavilion.
David Wrighton, Bryen & Langley Ltd’s Director, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract to build Cyclopark’s pavilion, which will act as the central focal point at the heart of Cyclopark. This is a really exciting project and we look forward to working with both Kent County Council and their consultants to play our part in what will be an unrivalled sports facility for the South East.”
Kent County Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Waste, David Brazier, who is also the council’s Member Cycling Champion, said: “Every milestone that Cyclopark passes brings this vision closer to reality. The pavilion is central to the wider design of the park and will bring together cyclists and sports men and women, whatever their activity or ability.
“The pavilion will also host community facilities, retail, health treatment facilities and a stunning café overlooking the race circuit. Bryen & Langley have an outstanding reputation across the South East and have demonstrated great enthusiasm and capability to develop specialist facilities. I look forward to seeing this key element of Cyclopark finally take physical shape.”
Sport England’s Chair, Richard Lewis, said: “In our drive to deliver a mass participation legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we're transforming the places where people play sport – helping to create sustainable sporting opportunities that meet the needs of local communities. With National Lottery investment, Cyclopark is set to become a local beacon for grassroots sport, providing the chance for people of all ages and abilities to take on a range of sports for years to come.”

Cyclopark welcomed its first winner!
The South East Road Race League booked in a Winter Series at the park and was pleased when 80 riders entered the first event and the first ever race on the new circuit. The circuit was dry and the event was blessed with sunny weather although a strong head wind on the finishing straight took its toll on a lot of riders.

The CycloPark will offer unique access to 43 hectares of world class action sports facilities.
The pavilion will overlook the main cycle, skateboard, BMX tracks and sports space acting as a grandstand for spectators, and the heart of this dynamic multi sports park.
Within the 43 hectares there will be other leisure opportunities for hosting triathlon events, horse riding, walking, running, outdoor exercise equipment stations, a pre-school 'cycle play park’ as well as education and training resources.
