Archery coaching courses
The 'Leader' qualification is intended primarily for people from outside the sport, who wish to provide basic and safe instruction at schools, colleges, leisure centres and other commercial venues and events. This qualification is therefore ideal for teachers, youth leaders and leisure centre staff. For coaching within the GNAS club structure, the recommended qualification is the 'Coach'. Training courses are normally available only during the period from autumn to early spring, as the coaches who deliver the training are mostly active participants in the sport. Several entry level coach courses are normally available each year in Kent or in a neighbouring county; higher levels are undergoing considerable revision to comply with the UK Coaching Certificate structure and courses are not currently available. Archery Officials' coursesMost tournaments (from club level to the Olympics) are conducted under the scrutiny of a 'Judge', who is responsible for overseeing all safety aspects, compliance with the rules of shooting and helping to ensure that the event runs smoothly. Most judges are also active participants in the sport, or have been and therefore understand the issues faced by those they are working with. Training to become a judge is only available to members of GNAS and involves a combination of instruction, self-paced learning and working at tournaments with experienced judges; it finishes with a written examination and/or ‘on-the-job’ assessment. There are no specific courses offered, but any member who is interested in becoming a tournament judge, should contact the County Secretary for advice (contact details for County Secretary).
