Coach Scholarship Scheme - Round 2

Twelve more coaches will be supported through the KCC Coach Scholarship Scheme to enhance their skills and knowledge, and further develop their ability to assist people in Kent to reach their potential in their chosen sport.

The KCC Coach Scholarship Scheme provides funding for coach development, to support Governing Bodies of Sport to increase the quantity and quality of coaches and officials in Kent, who will in turn assist the development of the sport in the County.

The focus of the second round of the scheme for 2007-8 was on elite performance, with the emphasis on supporting those coaches who were looking to use this opportunity to support higher performance athletes in the County.

Funding from this round was awarded to seven sports: Rugby, Gymnastics, Netball, Tennis, Cricket, Movement & Dance and Table Tennis. In particular, the funding of just over £2,000, will help to:

  • qualify up to three tutors to train more local people as Movement & Dance coaches
  • develop Talent Identification opportunities and pathways within trampoline gymnastics
  • raise the level of coaching within Kent Netball Academies for talented athletes
  • contribute to the development of all age groups within Kent Representative Cricket
  • deliver a performance tennis coaching programme linked to LTA High Performance Centre
  • ensure that young high performance Table Tennis players benefit from competition analysis

Funding was awarded for the development of Simon Jervis and Matt Dansey (Rugby Union); Kim Marie Wilcox, Jackie Winder and Katherine Atterton (Movement & Dance); James Coomber, Mark Baker and Tamzin Reid (Trampoline Gymnastics); Sheila Camis (Netball); Craig Riley (Cricket); Richard Beckham (Tennis); and Ken Muhr (Table Tennis).
