Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport
Sport can and does have a very powerful and positive influence on people – especially young people. Not only can it provide opportunities for enjoyment and achievement, it can also develop valuable qualities such as self-esteem, leadership and teamwork. However, these positive effects can only take place if sport is in the right hands – in the hands of those who place the welfare of all young people first, and adopt practices that support, protect and empower them.
KCC Sport, Leisure and Olympics is committed to working in partnership with organisations delivering sport within the county, to promote best practice when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults. The information contained within these pages will help to safeguard young people from potential abuse, as well as protecting staff, volunteers and other adults in positions of responsibility from allegations of abuse.

KCC Sport, Leisure and Olympics Policy & Implementation Procedures
for Safeguarding & Protecting Children in Sport provides support
and information for those working in sport, raising the awareness
of the responsibilities of those delivering activity on our behalf,
to ensure that the necessary actions are taken to protect children
involved in sport and to minimise avoidable risks. It also serves
to provide parents and carers with the information they need to feel
confident that their children’s welfare is at the centre of
KSDU events and activities.
