Kent Disability Sports Strategy 2008-2012
This document outlines the current structure of disability sport
in the UK. Details the resources delivering disability sport
in the County and sets out a framework for development, along
with a number of recommendations.
Work will take place over the coming years with a host of partners to deliver disability sport in Kent and to work towards meeting the aspirations of the strategy.

A number of publications are available, providing background information for developing and promoting disability sport.
These include:- The Strategy for Disability Sport in Kent, sports specific fact sheets, and a series of 5 promotional posters promoting positive images of disabled athletes,- boccia players, wheelchair basketball players and swimming ,athletics and a general multi-image poster.

We no longer produce the Kent Directory of Disability Sport - this information and more is available on the pages of this website.
However a number of Local Authorities do produce local Sports Directories which may include information on the accessibility and user-friendliness of clubs and opportunities, these include;

Athlete First; A History of the Paralympic Movement
This book provides a thoroughly researched history and analysis of the Paralympic Movement, including the development and organisation of the International Paralympic Committee. As well as recounting factual achievements and events, the book examines the position of sport and international competition for people with a disability, within the changing historical context an din relation to the Olympic Movement and non-disabled sport.

'Paralympic Winter Games' - from the International Paralympic Committee
Co-authors Britta Jahnke and Klaus Schule, with assistance from a number of experts within the Paralympic Movement have produced this new book. The book commemorates 30 years of Paralympic Winter Games, spanning from Ornskoldsvik 1976 to Torino 2006.

FA access guide
The FA has produced a guide
to help football clubs meet the requirements of part three of the Disability
Discrimination Act. Recommendations include carrying out an audit of facilities
to ensure they comply with the new legislation, and a review of ticketing

Active
The Sports, Leisure and Arts directory for the physically impaired in the UK has been out for a couple of months now and is getting great reviews. Active, sponsored by Cyclone, lists a hundred different organisations that provide a variety of activities for wheelchair users ranging from the robust to the more genteel. Rugby and basketball are featured, as are gardening, photography, fishing and dancing. Tanni Grey-Thompson OBE wrote the forward in which she said "The most important effect that exercise has had on me is that I feel healthy and fit and on a personal level I feel strong enough to do all the things that I want to do. Even everyday things like getting in and out of the car, pushing up ramps or bathing my baby is easier because of the physical activity I have been involved in…".
