Every year, 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem. The Mental Health Charter for Sport and Recreation sets out how sport can use its collective power to tackle mental ill health and the stigma that surrounds it.

The Charter has been developed by the Sport and Recreation Alliance alongside the Professional Players Federation and with support from the mental health charity, MIND. To date over 150 organisations within the sports sector, including player associations and National Governing Bodies of Sport, have signed up to the Charter and pledged their support to promote good mental health and mental health practices.

Kent Sport has signed up to the Charter and through the work of the Service is committed to taking positive steps to address and encourage people to be open about mental health issues. For more information about the Charter please visit the Sport and Recreation Alliance website.

Elefriends

Set up by the charity MIND, Elefriends is a supportive online community which provides a safe space for people to find support and advice, share their tips and experiences and listen to others. Get Set to Go website

Mind has launched a new motivational website to help women with mental health problems choose a sport which is suitable to them, enabling them to take the first step and get active to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

The new website asks people to select reasons that are stopping them from exercising and provides practical tips and real life stories to inspire people to take the first step and reap the benefits of an active lifestyle.

Live Well website

The Live Well Kent website has been set up as part of the mental health contract that has recently been commissioned by Kent County Council and the NHS and is being delivered by two charities, Porchlight and Shaw Trust. Live Well Kent helps people improve their mental and physical health and wellbeing. It is a free new service for anyone over 17. Some of the things they can help with are:
