Accessibility
Kent Sport Leisure and Olympics Service is fully committed to ensuring its website is accessible and inclusive for all its users.
Web accessibility focuses on ensuring all users, regardless of their physical and mental capability, are able to access the content and services on a particular website.
Our aim has been to make Kentsport.org accessible to all who may be interested. Its design and build has taken into account the following guidelines:
- The WC3 Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) www.w3.org
- The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA, part three) - www.disability.gov.uk/dda
These guidelines include:
- Using an easy to read font type.
- Ensuring suitable foreground and background colour contrast
- Using clear and simple grammar
- Providing meaningful text equivalents for pictures
- Providing simple and consistent site navigation.
- Assigning access keys for key navigational elements
- Ensuring the target of each link is clearly defined
- Providing a Table of Contents
- Providing navigational short cuts for users of text only browsers and page readers
- Using appropriate structural mark-up to maximise browser support
- Ensuring all content and functionality is available to users without content style sheet (CSS), image and script support.
Javascript
The forms on our website do use JavaScript. They have been designed to be as practical as possible for the majority of users. However, JavaScript does present accessibility problems to some users so we have ensured that there is a link to info@kentsport.org at the top of this two pages. This allows the user to contact Kent Sport Leisure and Olympics Service directly.
Multimedia
We host a number of different video clips on the site both to give people a wider view of our bid and to make our content more accessible to people who find it easier to view rather than read content.
We have included these clips in the media format commonly used on the web, Adobe Flash, which is suitable for a variety of different connection types and speeds.
We have also provided transcripts alongside videos.
BrowseAloud
Our website offers a link to BrowseAloud. This is a free tool that speech enables website content. It offers a practical website access service to people with reading difficulties and those who find it easier to listen to, rather than read the content of our website.
