Kent 20 in 12 Learning Programme Case Study
Summary
The principal aim of 20 in 12 is to use the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to inspire learning across the curriculum for children and young people in Kent and support them to identify and fulfil their aspirations.
What We Did
Conceived in 2006, the purpose of Kent’s 20in12 Learning Programme is to develop a learning framework for schools and settings (e.g. Early Years institutions, Pupil Referral Units, and we are exploring how Youth Services can access the programme) across all 12 of Kent’s Local Children’s Services Partnerships (LCSPs) to maximise the opportunities of the London 2012 experience for the young people of Kent.
Through 20in12 we are providing a direct link for all schools and settings with GET SET (London 2012’s national Education Programme) to ensure as many Kent schools and settings become recognised as part of the GET SET network. 20in12 has already been very successful in this with over 95% of Kent schools registered for GET SET.
Schools across Kent are taking on Kent 20in12’s Go For It Challenge, the Inspire Mark learning programme that encompasses Pierre de Coubertin’s Olympic ideals Education, Culture and Sport.
End results (Outcomes)
- Each LCSP will deliver a minimum of 20 Olympic and Paralympic related activities in each 12 month period.
- Kent schools to be featured on the GET SET website at least 20 times in a 12 month period
- Schools and settings will continue to be supported to become recognised as part of the GET SET network by demonstrating their commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values (PRIDE)
- Identify 20in12 leads in each school and setting
- All Kent schools and settings signed to the Olympic and Paralympic values
- 20in12 programme supporting community regeneration by linking into projects like Pass the Passion (Kent’s young people’s element of the Campaign for the Olympic Torch to arrive in the UK in Dover).
Key Learning Points
- The need to have a 2012 agent in every school or setting to drive forward 2012 related activity
- For that 2012 agent to attend as many head teacher conferences as possible and to inspire one other person they come across to engage with the 2012 agenda?
