Young People delight in Big Day Out

Big Day Out KidsThe Big Day Out Plus saw two huge days of family fun as crowds of people enjoyed a packed music programme and firework finale. The festival celebrated the diversity of the borough through music, sport, food and dance.

The public were treated to performances by an ABBA tribute band and bhangra act DCS on the main stage whilst youngsters stole the limelight on the community stage.

The event which ran over the 5th and 6th July was organised by Gravesham Borough Council and North West Kent Racial Equality Council with funding from Kent County Council’s Kent 2012 Small Grants programme managed by the Sports Leisure and Olympics Service of Kent County Council.

Funding was used to engage a range of local young people’s groups including Tokyo Jo, Cultural Beats, Saheli Dances and Maximus Mc.

People from a range of different backgrounds brought the event to life by celebrating and respecting the different cultures that exist in Gravesham.

REC are further looking to develop the community stage at next years festival and following the success of the Big Day Out, 300 children from across Gravesham formed a parade of light and colour to promote community cohesion in relation to the launch of the Cultural Olympiad and the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
