Arts News from June 2006
With
the first formal meeting of Kent's Campaign for the 2012 Games Arts sectoral task group to take
place early in July, informal soundings and discussions with a range of partners
have already been taking place as to what legacy arts and culture organisations
and individuals within our county wish to get from London hosting the Games.
The national picture, led by Jude Kelly as chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games’ Culture, Ceremonies and Education Advisory Committee has identified three areas: potential for young people; international global cooperation; and community celebration. Kent's Campaign is looking at how we wish to interpret all three of these locally.
In terms of legacy, Sarah Maxfield, Chairman of Kent's Campaign for the 2012 Games Arts sectoral task group has identified two priorities that she will be exploring with partners. The first of these will be how to ensure every child in Kent has the opportunity to participate in a transforming creative experience in the run up or during the London Games. The second will be to use the renewed interest of the London Games’ Cultural Olympiad (2008 – 2012) to support existing efforts building up the strength and impact of our home grown arts organisations and festivals. Both of these should long term grow and nourish the audience and the participants in cultural events in Kent.
Details of the emerging cultural picture will be regularly updated and posted on this website, so please do visit again.
