Kidnet sreeningMore than 100 young people from all over the county came together today to celebrate the premiere of three films, made by the young people themselves which focus on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The films reflected different styles and approaches:

Each of the three groups worked with professional film makers to establish a concept, create a storyboard, film and direct their own short films.

The project was funded by Kent County Council and Screen South and is part of the work of the Kent Campaign for the 2012 Games, a partnership to maximise the benefits and legacy to Kent from the Olympics. The project, run by Kidnet on behalf of the County Council and Screen South enables young people to communicate as part of an online International Community of Young Storytellers, helping to highlight the global element of the Games and to interact with those around the world.

KCC Cabinet Member for Community Services and the Kent Campaign for the 2012 Games said:
“I had been looking forward to seeing the result of this innovative project and am very impressed by the dedication and skills of those involved. As the importance of electronic media continues to grow, projects such as these are an ideal opportunity to develop the skills and experience of young people whilst providing them with opportunities to become involved in the 2012 Games.”

Kidnet CEO John Dale added:
“Young people in Kent have illustrated what they are capable of doing as digital storytellers. The three films showed very different aspects of how Kent and the UK can tell the story of the Olympics in 2012 and we look forward to future projects.”

Chair of Kidnet and board member of Screen South Anna Home said:
“We are delighted to be doing something to bring young people into the world of film-making and the Olympics. This has been a great experience.”
