ARTS - archive September 2006
Arts’ role as a catalyst for change was the consensus of the first full meeting of the Kent Arts Sectoral Task Group which took place in early September. 2012, for Kent’s creative sector, must be about innovation, about (appropriate!) risk taking, and about arts being at the absolute heart of community values and community life. The group took a robust look at the emerging Kent priorities within the nascent strategy being developed by the Kent Coordinating Group for the 2012 Games, and will be consulting with sector partners throughout the autumn.
The national and regional approaches to the arts continues afoot too – the regional visit of Fran Hegyi (Cultural Programme Advisor at the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) took place earlier this month, and a visit to Kent by Bill Morris, Director of Culture, Ceremonies and Education will take place in October. The Chairman of the Kent Coordinating Group for the 2012 Games, and members of the Kent Arts sectoral task group, will be there to hear how plans for the Cultural Olympiad are shaping up, and to input our own thoughts on placing arts at the heart of a UK and London Games.
