Kent businesses signed up to the Olympic opportunity
Figures recently released demonstrate that Kent has the highest number of registrations within the South East on London 2012's business portal, critical to knowing when contracts will be coming up, and being able to tender for them. Given the South East has the highest number of business registrations outside of London, and then only marginally behind London, Kent's businesses have well and truly seized the opportunity and are becoming 'fit to bid'. Exact figures for the South East were
Kent 648, Surrey 545, Hampshire 364, Berkshire 294, Bucks 177, West Sussex 133, Oxon 123, East Sussex 129, and Isle of Wight 4.
As well as registering, Kent businesses are being encouraged to read the Olympic Delivery Authority's highly accessible Supplier Guide, which supports businesses to 'get involved and play your part'. Its content includes What the ODA will be buying, Process of Procurement, and identifying ODA supply chain opportunities.
260 Wednesdays to go (as at 29/08/07!)
This is how Paul Deighton, London 2012's Organising Committee's Chief Executive, is counting down the time until the London Games start, on July 27th 2012.
Paul, along with Tanni Grey Thompson, officially Britain's most successful paralympian ever, were the keynote speakers at the recent 60th Celebration of the Paralympics and 2012 Business Opportunities Breakfast, which took place in our region, at Stoke Mandeville. Paul attended the event to speak with local businesses about what the opportunities are around the Games, and he included in his comments what he terms 'the five Cs of Sponsorship'
- Sponsorship of a local athlete, a local sports club, a local community event, can make you stand out from the crowd to your Customers
- Sponsorship of a powerful cause improves motivation within a business, and makes a difference to Colleagues
- Sponsorship can be a business' contribution to its local community and demonstrate your Corporate Social Responsibility
- Sponsorship of an up and coming elite athlete can be your company's contribution to your Country (patriotism)
- Sponsorship, if well handled, benefits your Company through increased profit, delivered by the above!
Paul also talked about 'the name of the game is the supply chain and knowing where you fit in', and this is something regional and Kent based partners, including Kent County Council, Business Link Kent and SEEDA, are all working very hard on, to ensure that our small and medium sized enterprises CAN get the details needed about who is winning what contract, and when.
