Inspiring young people through the Games

Kent 20in12 Learning Programme

The aim of the Kent 20in12 Learning programme has been to ensure that every child and young person in Kent has the opportunity to engage in educational experiences inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Kent 20in12 Learning Programme is designed to complement Get Set, London 2012's National Education Programme , and has been running since 2008. It has been awarded London 2012's Inspire Mark of excellence. 'Go for It!'

The 'Go for It' challenge builds upon 20in12 and is aimed at supporting Kent schools to engage with '2012' in the final academic year build up to the Games, i.e. the academic year beginning September 2011, and running until July 2012. 'Go for It' brings together the core components of Baron Pierre de Coubertin's Olympic ideals of Education, Culture and Sport. Schools across the County's 12 districts are being supported and encouraged to develop their own London 2012 learning plans.

'Go for It' is made up of four components:

  • Informed Spectator (Get to Know about the Games)
  • Creative Explorer (Cultural Challenges)
  • Physically Active Participant (Sporting Challenges)
  • Lasting Memento (Treasured Moments)

The challenge was launched on 4 March at a Kent 2012 head teachers' seminar 'Preparing for a Moment in History', which saw guest speakers including Dame Kelly Holmes and Dr David Hemery CBE.
