New impetus for Swimming, Archery and Curling in the County
As part of the Kent Campaign's commitment to increased participation in sport and physical activity in Kent (as stated in Kent's 2012 Strategy, pdf) Kent County Council has been working with partners to bring in match funding to establish new Sports Development Officer posts.
Emily Vigors' full time role as a Swimming Development Officer has been funded by the County Council, Kent Swimming Association and Amateur Swimming Association South East, while Sandie Marsh's part time Curling Development Officer role has been funded by the County Council, the World Curling Federation and Fenton's Curling Rink, the South East's only curling rink, situated just outside Tunbridge Wells.
The archery development post has been funded as a legacy benefit of the Archery World Cup which recently took place in Dover and as an event was part funded by the Kent Campaign as part of its efforts to attract major sports events to Kent (as stated in Kent's 2012 Strategy, pdf). The post is again part funded by Kent County Council with partners Sport England and the Grand National Archery Society. An appointment is expected shortly.
