Chaired
by Martin Laws, Chairman of Kent's Sports Forum, the working group looking
at this is populated with representatives from organisations around the county
such as Kent County Council, University of Kent, and Kent Association of Sports
Development Officers.
This group was "first off the block" of all Kent sectors in terms of identifying what it wanted to get from our proximity to the London Olympics and Paralympics. And for this group, this was a focus on Kent sportsmen and women, Kent coaches, Kent clubs, and Kent schools and young people. Because of this quick start, a great deal of activity has already taken place since the announcement, and the achievements of this group in its first year can be seen by clicking here (pdf).
The overarching priorities of this group are to:
- Develop and deliver a high number of volunteers and top performers for 2012
- Develop greater specialist sports facility provision in the county
- Host of a number of sports preparation camps
- Establish sport at the top of the political agenda
- Have sport recognised for its wider contribution to communities
- Deliver increased participation in sport in Kent
