VISIT BRITAIN ENDORSES KENT'S APPROACH TO THE TOURISM OPPORTUNITIES OF 2012
Visit Britain have expressed a great deal of interest in Kent's Pride
in Kent programme, one of the projects laid out in Kent's Strategy for
the 2012 Games. In particular Visit Britain are looking at the Big Day Out
Concept, and this may become the pilot for a national roll out in 2008 or
2009. Watch this space!
Visit Britain will be producing a logo and brand specifically connected to the Games opportunity, but distant to the official London 2012 branding so that tourism partners can use them. This will be launched at the end of 2007, for use in 2008 after the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games have ended.
Visit Britain will be launching their Tourism Strategy this July, with the 2012 opportunity a leading element. Visit Britain will also publish in July two pieces of research, a new economic impact model for the Games, and a Leisure and Hospitality Olympics/Paralympics readiness study.
KENT TOURISM LAUNCHES REVOLUTIONARY DESTINATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The Kent Tourism Alliance has launched its revolutionary new Destination Management
System (DMS) to enable 24/7 online search and booking of short breaks. The
easy search facility and regularly updated information will ensure visitors
will enjoy using the site and gain much from its content. In the first year,
it is anticipated there will be rapid growth in uptake, both in terms of tourism
providers and visitors.
Before introducing DMS, the alliance consulted numerous UK locations where such systems had proved successful. A Kent Tourism Alliance internet development manager was engaged in November 2005 to mastermind the project and ensure the end result meets all objectives.
Launching and growing the Destination Management System is one of the Kent Coordinating Group for the 2012 Games’ tourism sectoral task group’s key objectives, with the stated outcome that it be 'an attractive user-friendly online system that allows domestic and international tourists to easily navigate, understand and arrange their visits to Kent'. It is hoped to link it with transport providers prior to the Games in 2012.
