LONDON 2012 TRANSPORT TEAMS VISIT KENT THAMESIDE

Fasttrack bus Officials from the transport teams of both the Olympic Delivery Authority (infrastructure) and London Organising Committee (logistics), as well as the Department for Communities and Local Government met recently with key local Kent partners including Kent Thameside, Southeastern Railway, London & Continental Railways, and Land Securities plc

Exploring the hosting of the official Park and Rail for the London Games at Ebbsfleet, car parking for 9000 visitors was covered, as was access to the North Kent line, which might provide much better access to the Greenwich and Woolwich Olympic venues, than directing visitors through Ebbsfleet and central London. Access to Northfleet and Greenhithe station on the North Kent line would have to be revisited, but particularly for Northfleet, investment off the back of the Games could provide a significant legacy benefit.

London 2012 revealed their thinking that if Ebbsfleet is to be a major transport hub for the Games, then they might look to stage some of the 'national programme' elements of the Cultural Olympiad in North Kent.
