TRANSPORT - September 06 archive
The Olympic Transport Authority has confirmed that although the Olympic Transport Plan (OTP) was originally expected to come out for consultation this September, it is keen that a Strategic Environmental Assessment Report be available for consultation simultaneously. It is now therefore anticipated that the joint consultation be launched towards the end of October, with the final OTP being published next summer as planned. The Kent Coordinating Group for the 2012 Games’ Transport sectoral task group, plus all Kent’s district authorities, and Medway, will receive copies of the consultation. The group will meet to discuss its implications in November.
In the original London 2012 “bid book” two sites located on the M25 and M11 were proposed for coach-based park and ride services to serve the Olympic Park and River Zone venues. It was anticipated one of these might be around the Dartford area. However, subsequent analysis has identified that the legacy value of these schemes could be low, and that consequently the Olympic delivery Authority (ODA) is investigating alternative sites and will be continuing this work over the next 6 months. The ODA are currently developing a forecast of the distribution of spectators to identify where sites could be located that would enable park and ride to provide the optimum benefit to the spectator transport system, and they will be working with boroughs and local authorities on the selection of sites.
