VOLUNTEERING - April 2007 archive

Volunteer It was announced at the Thames Gateway Forum in November that an NVQ in Volunteering has been created to tie in with the need of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games to have between 70 and 80 000 volunteers. Further details are expected early in this new year, when it is anticipated that the Pre Games Volunteering Programme details may also become available. The intention of the Pre Games Volunteering Programme is to engage and support those who wouldn’t ordinarily engage in volunteering in their community, and/or those who wish to volunteer as part of their own efforts to gain skills to then gain employment. 10% of those accepted on to the Pre Games Volunteering programme are anticipated to become volunteers at the Games themselves, and 100% of those on the programme will be guaranteed a job interview.

In the South East, the Learning and Skills Council Sussex along with Sussex Downs College is developing a “curriculum” for volunteers on areas such as health & safety, and customer service.
