Dean is a member of the Junior Great Britain Canoe / Kayak Team. His immediate focus is on competing in the European Junior Sprint Championships and the Marathon World Championships in 2008. His long-term aims include the World Junior Sprint Championships in 2009 and selection for the GB team at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
