Student lectureTwenty school projects across Kent could receive a grant of £500 to support Olympic themed study support or extended schools activity.

Kent County Council’s Extended Services have teamed up with the Kent 20in12 Learning Programme (managed by KCC’s Children, Families and Education directorate) and Canterbury Christ Church University to search for exciting school projects directly inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Funding will provide 20 project grants in 12 months, and is available to schools across Kent who use the Games as a stimulus for Study Support and Extended Schools Activity.

Project grants of £500 will be offered to schools, staff and students of Canterbury Christ Church University (to work with schools) to enable them to plan and deliver a study support or extended schools learning project.

What is required?

Each project will look to engage learners in a series of out of school hours sessions over the course of at least one term and should complement the learning themes of the Kent 20in12 Learning Programme

Each project will culminate in a written case study report that reviews and celebrates the project to be submitted to the Kent 20in12 website and will also the local press. Evidence of student participation (i.e. work or photographs) are also required should the project be exhibited.

Successful applications will require the following:

  • A Plan – organise a Study Support and/or Extended Schools Activity learning project that uses the Olympic and Paralympic Games as a stimulus
  • Theme - one of the learning themes of the Kent 20in12 learning Programme will form the basis of the learning project (www.kent20in12.co.uk)
  • Sessions - at least six out of school hours sessions to represent the project in action
  • Evidence - Ensure learners produce material that can be exhibited as evidence of the learning project (desirable)
  • Case Study Report - a written case study review of the learning project
  • Applications from staff or students of Canterbury Christ Church University; must make clear which school(s) you intend to work in partnership with.
  • Funded activities must take place before 31st March 2010.

Completed application forms must be received by Friday 9th October.
