Delivering a volunteering legacy

Brighton work with Kent to deliver volunteering legacy

Beacon group working with Brighton staffKent and Brighton and Hove Council came together to discuss the Kent eVent Team and Kent’s Beacon work.

Several authorities across the UK have expressed an interest in the Kent eVent Team, wishing to learn how to establish a similar volunteering model. The Kent eVent Team is aimed at recruiting volunteers for one-off sport, leisure and cultural activities across the county, including the build up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.

Already over 700 Kent residents have registered to be a Kent eVent Team volunteer and we hope this number will only grow as the 2012 Games get nearer.

Brighton heard directly from the Chairperson of the Kent 2012 Volunteering Sectoral Task group, Charlotte Osborn-Forde and the Kent eVent Team Manager, Teresa Pritchard. The learning session was tailored specifically around the needs and requests of Brighton and Hove Council.

The discussion on the Kent eVent Team covered background, structures, partnerships, resources, marketing and results.

As a Beacon authority Kent is looking to share its best practice on 2012 related projects nationally and to learn from other local authorities across the UK.

Kent is willing to visit or be visited by any authority who wishes to use the ‘magic dust’ of the 2012 Games to bring about a lasting legacy in their community.
