Disability Sport Continues to Strive in Kent
The Kent Campaign for the 2012 Games has moved a step closer to achieving its target of having a disability sport associate officer in place for each Paralympic sport, by 2012.
Following the appointment a Wheelchair Tennis associate officer in October, Kent now has 18 of the 19 Paralympic sports covered – a position no other local authority has ever achieved.
Each disability associate officer is responsible for developing the sport within Kent, helping to improve awareness and accessibility within the county. The only position left to fill is disability Power lifting, and it is highly likely that the 19th member of the team will be in place well in advance of the 2012 target. The news comes after another brilliant year for Kent disability sport. In September quadriplegic sailor Hillary Lister completed her solo journey around Britain, and Kent Rising Star Nicholas Boylan helped the Great Britain 4x100m relay team smash a seven-year old world record by two and a half seconds to win gold at the INAS-FID Global Games in the Czech Republic.
