Get Set to Get Enterprising
The official London 2012 education programme, Get Set, has launched a new set of resources to help develop the enterprise skills of 11 to 14 year olds.
‘Have you got what it takes?’ is a free teacher led resource, inviting students to work in teams and to take on the role of a company pitching to become an approved host of a Pre-Games Training Camp. Students will also have the opportunity to enter their ‘bid’ into a national competition!
The Get Set programme has been a huge success across Kent, with all secondary schools now signed up to the programme. With the launch of Get Set Enterprise, a variety of new resources are now available through the Get Set website, including a starter pack for students, activity sheets, a PowerPoint introduction to the programme and a teacher guidance pack.
Each set of students will proceed through two stages of the ‘Have you got what it takes?’ competition, designed to test pupil’s creativity, business awareness and presentational skills:
- Stage one: Students prepare materials to demonstrate that they are ‘pitch ready’ and can therefore qualify as an approved host.
- Stage two: Students give a presentation, (using the materials they prepared in stage one), to the national governing body of a sport, in an attempt to actually host a pre-Games Training Camp.
In addition, students are required to demonstrate that the ‘company’ they create, including its employees – the students – are committed to the Olympic and Paralympic Values!
Entering the National Competition
The winning team from each school is invited to enter a national ‘Have you got what it takes?’ competition with the chance to win prizes such as a trip to the Olympic museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. Competition finalists will also win an exclusive tour of the Olympic Park in Stratford, London.
To enter, schools must post a blog onto Get Set, stating why the winning team has ‘what it takes’ in no more than 250 words. Teams will also need to provide a picture of a mood board recording the bidding and pitching process. Only one entry is allowed per school and teams may include up to 6 pupils, aged between 11 and 14.
The competition is open now and with the closing date for all entries on 7 April 2010.
