Kent schools Get Innovative!
Two Kent schools were successful in the national competition ‘Get Set. Get Innovative’ linking enterprise with the London 2012 Games.
The schools are two of 17 across the UK selected to work on a variety of pilot projects which are developing programmes linking enterprise and London 2012. Fulston Manor and Leigh Technology Academy were both awarded £5,000 to run programmes will take place in the school during the summer term and will help shape future London 2012 enterprise programmes.
Fulston Manor School, Sittingbourne
Fulston Manor School will be running a number of activities as part of their annual Enterprise Activity Week forming an Olympic Challenge.
Groups of year seven pupils will take part in the event with Sixth Form students leading on the organisation of the end of week finale. Activities will include:
- Each group to represent an Olympic and Paralympic country
- Work with relevant school departments to create a national anthem, flag and their own Haka dance
- Study the history and geography of the Olympic and Paralympic Games
- Practice record breaking activities whilst holding their own Mini-Olympics
- Stage own Opening Ceremony with nations parading their flag to their national anthem and performance of their Haka.

Leigh Technology Academy, Dartford
Leigh Technology Academy will be running a number of enterprise activities surrounding their centrepiece event of creating an aerial depiction of the five Olympic rings using pupils and staff from the academy. The image will be created using coloured T-shirts and will involve pupils from all four colleges, with the fifth Olympic ring being formed by the staff.
The enterprise workshops will focus around the seven Olympic and Paralympic values.
