London 2012’s ‘Open Weekend’
This is YOUR opportunity to participate in a London 2012 event across culture, sport, sustainability and education.
This year’s Open Weekend will take place between 24-26 July 2009 and will be part of the celebrations to mark the three year countdown to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on 27th July 2012.
Open Up:
- London 2012 is open for everyone to join in,
- Open yourself up to new ideas and challenges,
- Try something new and take part
- Take ownership of the Games for your region, location or activity
- Showcase and give people the chance to participate in their 2012 programme
London 2012 challenges organisations and individuals to do something ‘like never before’ and strive for personal best:
- To reach as wide an audience as possible
- Launch activities for 2009 and plans for 2012
- Profile plans for 2012 as well as individual’s aspirations and examples
- Demonstrate examples of cross-genre participation
- Highlight the involvement of young people in activity
- How can you make your Open Weekend 2009 even better than last year?
- Here is a platform for newcomers to Open Weekend to launch your role and aspirations. What can you offer the public that is new and exciting?
- What can you do to develop a programme that gradually builds year on year to a crescendo of activity in 2012?
Event Organisers
- Open Weekend 2009 is about building on the great events of last year to excite the public and give them an opportunity to participate in activity, experience new things, and be part of a London 2012 programme.
- Events for inclusion in Open Weekend cannot be commercially sponsored. If however the organisation itself has an existing association with a commercial sponsor, this need not prevent the organisation taking part in Open Weekend, as long as the individual event has no commercial sponsorship.
- A comprehensive branding toolkit and guidance will be given to all events that register for Open weekend 2009, including marketing material featuring the London 2012 logo.
