Dover Big Screen is next leg of Royal Opera House Relay
Have you ever seen a world class Opera in Dover? If the answer is no, then that is about to change…
In June this year the London 2012 Live Site in Dover’s market square will become part of the Royal Opera House Relay. Via live video feed, members of the public will be able to watch and listen to an exclusive performance of Carmen, direct from the Royal Opera House, London.
Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ is one of the world's most performed and classic operas. Set in 1830 in Seville, Spain, the story follows Carmen, a beautiful Gypsy with a fiery temper. After falling in love with Don José, an inexperienced soldier, their relationship leads to his rejection of his former love, mutiny against his superiors, and joining a gang of smugglers. In a dramatic twist, Carmen later turns from him to the bullfighter Escamillo, leading a jealous Don José to murder Carmen.
This is a fantastic opportunity for all who enjoy opera and for members of the public to sample a new cultural experience. The spectacular event will take place on 8 June 2010 at 7pm, and the event is FREE!
More information will follow in the coming months; any early enquiries should be directed to bigscreen@dover.gov.uk
