Getting a Grip on real London 2012 Challenge
London 2012 is calling on students up and down the UK to put their learning into practice by solving a London 2012 related challenge!
‘STEM Challenges’, is a London 2012 Inspired Marked project that challenges Key Stage 3 pupils studying Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths to find a solution to a problem that may genuinely impact on the running of the Games in 2012.
A series of ten 2012 inspired activities have been designed as part of the project, each focusing on a different aspect of the preparations for the Games or an Olympic event itself. All ten activities are run as competitions, providing a contextual and cross-curricular approach to studying the STEM subjects at Key Stage 3.
Typical themes include modelling the construction of a sports arena, designing special effects used in the opening ceremony and researching and testing materials for sportswear. In fact, the next challenge is in association with tier one Olympic sponsor adidas and will ask students to design a glove for use in water sports!
The challenge is already under way and runs until Sunday 25 April and is open for all Key Stage 3 aged pupils. Team names must be registered by Monday 22 March. For more information, follow the link below:
