Tall, Talented – and a Future Olympian?

TalentedUK Sport is starting a new search to find Olympians of the future.

Talent 2016 is a new nationwide campaign looking for talented athletes who have the potential to win gold for GB at the 2016 Olympics.

With the London Games in 2012 less than three years away, the search has already begun to find a new generation that will continue the sporting legacy on from London. Although the 2016 Games are a long way off, it takes years of commitment, time, and intensive training to hone the skills of an Olympic champion.

What are they looking for?

The first stage of the talent search is currently looking for ‘Tall and Talented’ individuals between the ages of 15 – 22. Height has previously been identified as winning attribute across a number of sports, in particular rowing and canoeing. No previous sporting experience is required, so if you are exceptionally tall (over 180cm women and 190cm men) and possess raw sporting talent, you could be nurtured under the guidance of elite level coaches in a world class training environment.

Previous talent ID campaigns have found a significant number of successful applicants have been initially identified in schools and the fitness and leisure industry. Often it is personal trainers, fitness instructors or school teachers that have the ability to spot talent and identify individuals with potential. Do you know anyone ‘Tall and Talented’?
