Kent Campaign for the 2012 Games: Maximising the Benefit of the Games being next to the Games

The Olympic Torch Relay

On 27 July 2012, the eyes of the world will be on London for the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games.

A key point of the Opening Ceremony will see the lighting of the Olympic Stadium cauldron with the Olympic Flame. Representing peace, unity and friendship, the Flame will enter the UK on Friday 18 May 2012 and start its journey around the UK the following morning at sunrise from Land's End.  For its 70 day tour of the UK the Torch will be carried by 8,000 inspirational Torchbearers, each nominated by members of the public and each with their own unique story to share.

Districts all across Kent will play a role in this journey, with the community level route made public on 7 November 2011. Full details of the Relay will be announced closer to the time, inviting people from across the area to welcome the Olympic Flame in these locations.  The Olympic Torch Relay will shine a spotlight on the people and places of Kent and demonstrate that the Olympic spirit is alive and well.
