Inspiring young people through the Games

Olympic Torch Lights Students’ Passion

Group of young people passing the passionKent’s Pass the Passion campaign brought children from across Dover, Deal and Sandwich together last week to support the campaign to bring the 2012 Olympic torch to the UK through Dover in 2012.

Students from eight secondary schools attended a workshop at Sandwich Technology College, tasked with creating their own representation of the Olympic torch. An original torch from the 1948 London Olympic Games was also present and was relit to help spark the students’ imaginations!

Children from Priory Fields Primary School attended at lunchtime to perform the official Pass the Passion song. The song was written by pupils last year at a ’Dover Schools’ Torch Conference’.

After the performance, a panel of judges chose the winning entry from the Olympic Torch Mural competition, launched earlier in the spring term. A staggering 6000 entries were received from 44 primary schools across Dover, Deal and Sandwich! The winner, Ryan Hanson aged 8 from River School in Dover, will have his artwork transformed into a fantastic mural to be displayed at De Bradelei Wharf.
