Kent’s young people make big screen debut
More than 100 young people from all over the county came together in November to celebrate the premiere of three films, made by the young people themselves which focus on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The films reflected different styles and approaches:
- a news-bulletin-styled parody of three days of sporting excellence made by pupils from the Channel School (now Academy), Folkestone
- a feature entitled ‘Aspiration, Perspiration’ focusing on the Paralympic aspects of the Games, featuring Valance School – made by members of Kent Youth County Council
- a black and white old fashioned newsreel-style parody of the Games that took place in Stockholm in 1912 made by pupils from Canterbury High School
Each of the three groups worked with professional film makers to establish a concept, create a storyboard, film and direct their own short films.
The project was run by Kidnet on behalf of the County Council and Screen South, and will enable the young people involved to join an online International Community of Young Storytellers, helping to highlight the global element of the Games and to interact with those around the world.
