Kent Schools’ 2012 package (and London 2012’s own latest thoughts)

Young people's learningLocal Education Officers covering the county (excluding Medway, who are progressing with Medway-localised plans) have been briefed on the 2012 opportunities, and possible plans for schools. A ‘LEO Executive’ has subsequently been formed to coordinate and drive the schools’ focused work through and across each of Kent LEA’s 23 school ‘clusters’.

London 2012 themselves are not planning to create curriculum packs, in response to overwhelming feedback from schools (compare this to Beijing where over 400m curricular packs have been distributed!). London will however launch their domestic education programme in the autumn of 2008, focusing on the Olympic/Paralympic values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect. Plans for the London 2012 programme will be shared with all schools early in December of this year. The hope is that children will be able to learn about the Olympics/Paralympics at school, and then be able to go out into their communities and continue to learn about the Games at e.g. libraries, museums, and sports clubs.
