Growth in Paralympic sports in Kent

One of the Kent 2012 sport priorities has been to appoint ‘associate officers’ for any paralympic sport not already covered. Since July 2005 Kent CC’s Sports Development Unit has appointed officers in the sports of Sitting Volleyball, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis, Sailing, Goalball and very recently Shooting (and for the winter Games – Skiing). This leaves wheelchair rugby, tennis, fencing, equestrian and powerlifting, and on the winter sports; wheelchair curling, nordic skiing, sledge hockey and biathlon, which we are working on!
There have also been a host of individual success of Kent paralympians, including Alastair McKean (rowing) and Nathan Milgate (shooting) who have both qualified for the Beijing Paralympics, Nicholas Boylan who was part of the Gold-medal winning team GB at the World Swimming Championships (beating the previous World Record by an astonishing 18 seconds), William Bayley (table tennis) who has won gold and silver team and individual medals at two international Opens, and Vicky Silk (javelin) who won bronze in the World Wheelchair Games.
