Kent leads on 2012 Education !

20 in 12The purpose of Kent’s 20in12 Learning Programme is to develop a learning framework for schools and settings (Early Years institutions, Pupil Referral Units, and potentially Youth Services can access the programme) across all 23 of Kent’s Local Children’s Services Partnerships (LCSPs) to maximise the opportunities of the London 2012 experience for the young people of Kent.

20in12 is providing a direct link for all schools and settings with Get Set to ensure as many Kent schools and settings become accredited members of the Get Set network. 20in12 has already been very successful in this as almost 400 schools (65% of Kent’s local authority administered schools) are registered with Get Set, significantly more proportionately than any other area in the U.K.

This has been recognised by London 2012 with the award of the visit to Kent of a top athlete to a young people’s event in the county.

What has happened academic year 08/09:

  • Planning and development around the Olympic and Paralympic Values which has been reorganised as PRIDE – Personal Excellence, Respect & Friendship, Inspiration, Determination and Courage, Equality.
  • A 20in12 lead person identified for each of the 23 LCSPs to form a Planning Group
  • CCCUPartnership with Canterbury Christ Church University formed to develop the website www.kent20in12.org.uk
  • Engaging with existing networks to gain buy in to the programme including specialist colleges, KCC’s Curriculum Advisors, LCSP Managers, headteachers’ networks, LCSPs’ individual head teacher planning groups
  • Engaging directly with schools and settings – launch of 20in12 at a ‘Sign Up to the Values Day’ 17 September 2008.

What is still to happen in academic year 08/09:

  • Continuing to identify 20in12 leads in each school and setting
  • Develop the Kent 20in12 Young Ambassador Programme
  • Target 2012 projects against the five themes to populate website as ‘case studies’ to act as a stimulus for school engagement in Phase 2
  • County Event on International Olympic Day to showcase development of 20in12 and engage the Young Ambassadors

What will happen in academic years 09/10 and 10/11:

  • Each LCSP will deliver a minimum of 20 Olympic and Paralympic related activities in each 12 month period. These will be young people conceived and led.
  • Kent schools to be featured on the GET SET website at least 20 times in a 12 month period
  • Schools and settings will continue to be supported to become accredited members of the GET SET network by demonstrating their commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values (PRIDE)

What will happen academic year 11/12:

  • ‘Big Events’ programme
