Prepare to Win in Kent
National sports teams will find excellent facilities and a very warm welcome if they train in Kent in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. Kent borders London and is a great place for athletes to stay, with wonderful countryside and attractions.
Pre Games Training Camp Venues
Kent is said to have more sports facilities able to host international athletes leading up to the London 2012 Games than any other area in the UK. 36 Olympic venues have the official sanction of the London 2012 Organising Committee. Kent also has eight venues which have been selected by London 2012 for their official brochure promoting facilities available for disabled athletes.
As a County we have already agreed to host pre-Games training camps with international sports teams from various disciplines. The Ukraine and Belarus judo squads will train at Tonbridge School and the Barbados Paralympic team will train in Medway. More nations are expected to announce their plans to train in Kent in 2011. You can find out further information regarding the excellent training facilities available by following the links below. We would warmly welcome any further international enquiries, to info@kentsport.org, or by telephoning +44 1622 605 051.
Kent is also keen to attract major sports events to the County, and is keen to work with international sports federations to facilitate this. We have already had some notable successes in this ambition, including the Tour de France, World Series Hand Crank Cycling and World Cup Archery events in 2007. In 2010, Kent will hold more exciting events including the international P1 Disability Cycling event at Fowlmead and international Sitting Volleyball tournament at the University of Kent. 2011 saw the Open Golf Championships come to Kent.
