Kent Campaign for the 2012 Games small grants fund
Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic movement, mirrored the classical Greeks in maintaining that the purpose of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games was to celebrate mind, body and spirit. London 2012 have encapsulated his thinking, particularly for young people, through three key attributes:
- Excellence
- Friendship
- Respect
The Kent Campaign for the 2012 Games has identified an allocation of funding to support cultural, creative and sports providers deliver activities and events that will demonstrate at least one of these attributes, and will support the Kent Campaign efforts to promote sporting and cultural activity in the county. Any activity or event should involve or include young people, defined as under 18, or up to 25 if involved in full time education, for the purposes of this fund.
The purpose of the funding is that such activities or events be new, or in some way be enhanced, through this grants scheme.
Cultural, creative and sports providers that benefit from this small grants fund will further benefit from badging as part of the Kent Campaign for the 2012 Games, and from additional profile through Public Relations activity and website presence for the duration of the project/programme.
Grants will usually range from £500 to £1000.
Funding could be for the following:
- Equipment/materials (purchase and hire)
- Venue hire
- Coaching/facilitators’ fees
- Training of coaches or volunteers in your specialism
- Promotional costs
- Transport
- Reasonable overheads
Funding will not be granted:
- Retrospectively
- For an existing activity or event that cannot be demonstrated to be enhanced/expanded
- For personal equipment
- For personal/commercial gain
Priority will be given to those applications that can demonstrate they meet at least one of the following three attributes:
- Can demonstrate the involvement of young people
- Identify events or activities with a demonstrable international, health, equitable or sustainable ‘green’ aspect
- Show a clear link to the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games ethos

Applications are welcomed from non-commercial Kent based organisations or groups. Where appropriate, terms of reference, a group’s constitution, and its terms of reference will be sought. The fund can meet up to 75% of the costs of a project. Applicants are encourage to find the remaining 25% of costs from other sources, although in some circumstances contributions in kind will be accepted as the organisation’s contribution.
