Kent Year of Sport

Interest in sport will of course be high in 2012, as it is the year of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. This is the year in which Kent has to capture this interest and ensure that the excitement of the Games translates into more people playing sport and doing physical activity if we are to achieve a lasting sports legacy from the Games.

Following wide discussion and consultation with Kent Association of Leisure and Cultural Officers, Kent Association of Sports Development Officers, Kent 2012 Coordinating Group and its Sports Sectoral Task Group and elected Members of Kent County Council, the consensus has been reached that the year 2012 should be marked as ‘Kent Year of Sport 2012’.

What Does this Mean?

In essence, this is an overall branding and ‘umbrella’ against which to badge existing activities and events, promote new participative opportunities in sport, and generate media attention. Rather than simply homing in on a short, specific period in 2012, the Kent Year of Sport 2012 will run from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2012.
