Active Swale Sports Awards 2010

Active Swale logoThe 2010 Active Swale Sports Awards were held on Wednesday 15th December at Wyvern Hall, Swallows Leisure Centre. The night saw well over a 100 people attending and in addition to the awards there were two street dance demonstrations by Inspirations Dance Group from Queenborough and informative presentations by Jon Rye (Youth Project Manager - London 2012 Organising Committee), Paul Peacock (Secretary Kent County Playing Fields Association) and Sarah Drury (Trustee of Swale Youth Development Fund). A raffle was held which raised £168 for Swale Youth Development Fund.

Senior Sports Performer of the Year presented by Swale BC Cllr Dave Banks and Jon Rye

GOLD - Sian Gordon – England International Bowls

SILVER - Amy Banes – England Indoor International Bowls

BRONZE - Chris Piesley - Kent Academy Cricketer

Senior Disability Sports Performer of the Year presented by KCC Cllr Mike Whiting and Jon Rye

GOLD - Paul German – 2010 British Transplant Games Gold Medallist at Running and Badminton

SILVER - Kate Knox – 2010 British Transplant Games Medallist at 800m and 4 x 400m

BRONZE - Alex Walker – 2010 British Transplant Games Medallist in long distance running

Unsung Hero/Volunteer of the Year Award presented by Christine White, Director of Swale Council for Voluntary Services

GOLD - Mark Rogers – league secretary of Sheppey Sunday League since 2006, as well as fixture and referees secretary and sits on Kent County FA Board.

SILVER - Andrew Martin – a stalwart who has helped create and maintain Swale's only Basketball Club the New House Night Hawks, fulfils a number of committee roles to a club that now operates five youth teams and a Mens team.

BRONZE - Norma Roche – a stalwart of Comets Netball Club, fulfilling a number of roles including Junior Coordinator.

Coach of the Year presented by Swale BC Cllr Bryan Mulhern, Executive Member for Culture

GOLD - Ian Taylor - volunteered his time for the past few years to deliver extra curricular activities at Bobbing Village School. He has coached the year 5 & 6 Football and Cricket teams. In the last year he has got the Football team to representing Swale at the Kent Football finals and the Cricket team came 2nd in the schools' finals.  Along with this he also coaches Swale Football and Cricket at Upchurch CC.

SILVER - John Clarke – coach of the IOSA Year 11 Boys who won the Kent Schools' Cup in July 2010.  Also Coach of the IOSA Mens who compete in the Sheppey Sunday League.

BRONZE - Laurence Kite – coach of the Swale U14s District Cricket Team who were undefeated and this season's County Champions.

 

Sports Club/Team of the Year presented by Swale BC Cllr Steve Worrall, Mayor of Swale

GOLD - Upchurch Cricket Club - Men's first team finished second in Kent League Three to gain promotion and reached Kent League Twenty20 Finals Day, Men's first team also won Doug Wood Cup and Swale Indoor Cricket League, 2nd X1 also won Div Three 2nd XI Kent League, U17s won Medway Cup Final and U15s won Swale League. They worked tirelessly to create a second square, accommodate a Football pitch and redevelop their club house.

SILVER - Swale U14s District Cricket Team – in 2010 became the first team in Swale's history to win a Kent County Inter District final, they won all five of their games convincingly to truly deserve the title County Champions. Several players have now been selected to trial for Kent squads this winter.

BRONZE - IOSA Year 11 Boy's Football Team - a great set of boys who this season won the Kent Schools' U16s Invicta Trophy – the first Swale School in many years to win a Kent Schools' Cup County Competition.
