100th clubmark award

It is more great news for sport in Kent with the recent award for the 100th Clubmark accredited club in the County. In an amazing twist, two clubs shared the momentous occasion.

Akzo Judo Club based in Gillingham and Medkwai Judo Club who are based on St Mary’s Island both achieved this recognition at the same time. The British Judo Association, presented to them by Andrew Moshanov, awarded both clubs with Clubmark Accreditation. As a special guest, Andrew is the Sports Director of the Russian Judo Federation and he is recognized as one of the leading judo coaches and experts.

Medway Council Sports Development Officer Sarah Risby said “both clubs have been working tirelessly towards this accreditation during the past 18 months and deserve to be recognised for all their efforts and hard work that this has involved”.

Karen French – Development Officer (South, London & South West) for British Judo said “Akzo and Medkwai Judo Clubs should be proud of their achievements in gaining Clubmark and demonstrating the high standards required for the award. Both clubs have good standards and have used and built on this to underpin the values that Clubmark recognises and raise the bar even higher for the BJA. As well as them both moving venues and adapting to the ever changing world of Judo, they have managed to use the structure that Clubmark gives to create a friendly and professional clubs for their members, volunteers and coaches.”

Clubmark which was developed by Sport England, is a set of national standards for National Governing Bodies of Sport to adopt and their affiliated clubs to meet. It is designed to recognise the achievements of sports clubs in England in developing high quality and welcoming environments for young people.
