External Provider Training for companies who provide activities for children

Helping HandsExternal Provider Training - a partnership approach.
Children and Young People’s charity Kent Youth and Kent County Council Extended Services working together.

Schools in Kent have been requesting a database of External Providers for those companies who provide activities for children before and after school, as well as at lunchtimes, weekends and during the holidays.

There was a decision that no-one could be entered onto the database until the External Provider concerned had attended two days' training. There is training now in place and the training is hosted by Kent Youth and Extended Services and their training aims include:

  • Safeguarding young people (including CRBs, insurance, ISAs)
  • Safeguarding the providers
  • Avoiding mismatched expectations
  • Exploring the benefits
  • Standards and quality Extended Services Provision (including updates on new Government policies, Ofsted, School Improvement)
  • Successful relationships
  • Future (including links with Kent Extended Services, follow-up support including monthly eBulletins, free use of internal mail to schools, contacts within the local authority, support with developing programmes etc)
  • Opportunity for networking and questions.

There are two sessions to attend - an initial session and a follow-up session and the training will take place at Oakwood House, Maidstone from 9.15am-2.30pm.  The cost is £40.00 plus £10.00 returnable deposit.
