Kent and Medway Schools Korfball Tournament
Over 250 boys and girls between the ages 6 and 16 eagerly participated in numerous matches during the day, cheered on enthusiastically by their parents and teachers many of whom had never witnessed Korfball before. The standard of play at all the age groups was extremely high as Korfball club mates battled against each other, this time representing their schools. It was pleasing to see so many new players enjoying themselves and it is hoped that they will join their local Korfball clubs. During the dinner break many teachers and parents took to the pitch to experience this very fast, exciting, ball handling sport and they too were eager to find out more information about taking up the sport for themselves. It was very pleasing that two schools from the Ramsgate area, St Lawrence and Minster, travelled to Medway to take part in their very first Korfball tournament.
Setting up the secondary school section proved to be a challenge as
one of the appealing features of Korfball is that each team must have
four male and four female players. In order to achieve this requirement
many single sexed schools had to link up. Spectators witnessed some
very competitive matches at this age group as many of the players
represent Kent, England and Scotland.
