Success for Kent in new Paralympic sport - Paratriathlon

Alistair MckeanTwo residents of Kent, Alastair Mckean from Canterbury and Matt Emerson from Deal, competed in the 2011 Tata National Paratriathlon Championships at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham in May.

The event, which included world and European champions, brought together the best British Paratriathlon athletes in the country. Both Alastair, 2008 Paralympic Bronze Medallist (LTA coxed four) and Matt, competing in their first Triathlon, showed good form against seasoned professionals with Alastair getting the silver medal in the Tri4 class in a time of 1hour 15minutes and finishing 8th overall and Matt the bronze in the Tri5 Class in a time of 1hour 18minutes finishing 11th overall.

Athletes race over three events including a 750 metre swim, 20Km bike and a 5Km run. Both Alastair and Matt are hoping to compete in future Paratriathlons with a view to one day representing Great Britain at the 2016 Paralympics.
