Helshan Weerasinghe selected for European Youth Campionships

Helsjam WeerasingheWith the final England selections for the European Youth Championships in Istanbul, Turkey from 16th – 25th July recently announced, Helshan Weerasinghe, a pupil of Judd School, Tonbridge, who is currently representing England in the European 6 Nations Cadet Championships, has been selected in the cadets (under 15s) in the European Youth Championships for the first time. Helshan regularly trains at the South East High Performance Centre at Angley School, Cranbrook.

It wasn't such good news for Weald Club, Cranbrook stars Lewis Gray and Yolanda King, as their form had dipped in key competitions leading up to the decision, so unfortunately this time missed out on selection.

At a recent Bribar Hereford Senior Grand Prix tournament Yolanda King had a mix of results though she did reach the final of the under 21 women’s singles and beat the England no.4 senior Emma Vickers en-route. Yoland's best performance was in the under 21 singles where she also made the finals.
Another Weald Club player, 12 year old Dan Lawrence from Tonbridge, got some good results against adults at Hereford. He reached the final of the men’s band 6 singles, and also reached the semi-finals of the band 5 singles
