Kent International Sitting Volleyball Tournament

Sitting Volleyball action The weekend of the Tournament proved to be a great success with some very competitive matches giving the crowd some thrilling moments.  The teams were from the UK, China, Holland and Hungary with the Mid Kent Ashford Schools Sports Partnership staff/teachers/Gurkhas fielding a team and also a team of injured service men taking part.

Group A and B matches were played on Saturday 4 July and each team played four matches throughout the day.

  • Group A: Team Volleer from Holland and Team Csakazert from Hungry qualified for the semi-finals. Third in the group was the Mid Kent & Ashford team with the retired Gurkhas who won two games. Fourth place was team Lincs and Loughborough with the local Canterbury Team, the Invicta Hellhounds, coming in fifth position.
  • Group B: Team Shanghai from China and Team Mikro Electric from Holland went through to the semi-finals.  Third was Team London Lynx with Fourth place taken by a team made up of injured service men, team Battle Back and Team Essex finished Fifth.

The first sem-final was between Team Volleer and Team Mikro Electric in an all Dutch affair with Team Volleer winning by two sets to one in a very close match to take their place in the final.  The second semi-final was between Team Shanghai and the Hungarian team Csakazert. Team Shanghai won by two sets to none, to take their place in the final.

The final was on Sunday 5 July between the two group winners Team Volleer and Team Shanghai with the match being very close but Team Shanghai triumphed to take the title.

The two losing semi finalists Team Csakazert and Team Mikro Electric battled for the bronze position with Team Csakazert eventually winning.

For all the GB players it was good preparation for the European Championships in September and we wish them success at the Championships.
