Sport UnlimitedSport Unlimited (SU) Open Pot Funding – apply now

The Kent Sport Leisure and Olympics Service is now seeking applications for the Sport Unlimited (SU) Open Pot funding from not for profit and statutory organisations, to deliver additional sport to ‘semi-sporty’ young people in Kent.

The purpose of SU is to support the ‘5 hour offer’ by raising the number of out of school hours young people participate in sport per week. The aim is to target ‘semi-sporty’ types which are defined as:

  • Young people aged 5-16 currently participating in 3 hours PE and sport per week
  • 16-19 Year olds doing 1-2 hours per week

Closing date for all applications is 19 June 2009.

Sport Unlimited projects should consist of a block of 8-10 hour long sessions, which target 5-19 year olds. 80% of projects funded are to target 11-19 year olds.

Sport Unlimited projects can include activities outside of Sport England’s support structure that are relevant and compelling to children and young people. These include dance, aerobics, climbing and skateboarding. It does not include activities such as walking or cycling to school. (All sports can be viewed in the guidance notes).

Kent has a target of 11,115 young people to be retained in Sport Unlimited programmes in year 2. This is the number of participants who attend at least 60% of the weekly sessions in a term-time series, i.e. the number of young people that attend at least 5 sessions out of an 8-week series, or 6 sessions out of a 9 or 10 week series.

There is no minimum or maximum in terms of the amount of funding you can apply for. However careful consideration will be given to how your project will contribute towards this target and the project cost per head will be taken into account.

Another element of the SU project is to introduce young people into local sports clubs. Therefore it is not simply about providing a block of 8-10 sessions but also the sustainability of that project. Applications should clearly highlight what the exit routes when the project has finished.

To apply for year 2 Open Pot funding you need to complete part 1 and part 2 of the application process:

• Part 1 provides us with all relevant contact details and signatures of the lead organisations

• Part 2 is where you will need to detail your project in an excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet contains a step by step instruction on how to complete the form.
