Sports Leaders UK Unveils 2012 Games Legacy
Sports
Leaders UK announced its 2012 legacy and recognised inspirational
young leaders at a special awards ceremony at the House of Lords recently.
The event, held in December , also saw the announcement of Sports
Leaders UK's recent partnership with Change4Life, the Government's
programme to encourage a healthier, active lifestyle.
The event, which was attended by over two hundred dignitaries, MPs and influential people, was a huge success and demonstrated how Sports Leaders UK will be one of the largest contributors to the 2012 legacy.
The legacy is a two fold pledge. Firstly to mobilise over 200,000 volunteers leading over 500,000 hours of physical activity each year, and to secure fulfilling roles for those Sports Leaders by raising attention to their skills with major employers and organisations deploying volunteers.
Secondly, to contribute over 400,000 more active people towards Sport England, and the Department of Health's target to get 1 million more people more active by 2012.
The seven runners up for the Sports Leaders UK Volunteer of the Year Award 2009, including Daniel Lant from Maidstone, were presented with a certificate and cheque by Andy Reed MP for Loughborough. Also in attendance from Kent were SophieKillian from Canterbury High School and Freddie Ruby from Charlton Athletic Community Scheme Solutions, who both won scholarships to work in the U.S.A. next summer at the Sports Leaders UK Convention held last summer.
