The sporting success of sports men and woman in 2009 was celebrated at the inaugural Active Swale Sports Awards evening held at The Sittingbourne Community College on Wednesday 9 December.

Invited guests from across Swale warmly applauded the sporting achievements of men and women who had been nominated for awards in seven categories covering junior and senior sport, disability sport, coaching and volunteering. The final award was for Sports Club of the Year.

Marge Millar, Chair of Active Swale, in welcoming the guests explained the aims of Active Sport of raising the profile in sport in Swale, increasing the participation levels in physical activity; assist in the development of sports clubs in the area and to celebrate sporting successes in Swale. As Marge said, “Active Swale (your Community Sports Network) is new having only meet a few times but it is determined to make a difference and raise the profile of sport in the Swale area and help the young and the not so young to get into sport and for the elite high performers support their dreams and with London 2012 taking place only 50 miles away there is no reason why Swale sports men and woman should not be representing GB at the Games”.
